Atlantic City Struggles: Will Salvation Come from $19 per night Hotel Rooms? 25.03.2012

The 2008 US economy slump is far from over and has affected just about every business in every city across the country. One city hit particularly hard and having an extremely difficult time finding ways to bounce back and boost revenue is Atlantic City.

Las Vegas, with all of its glitz and glamour on display, is on its way to rebounding nicely from the economy collapse but this is mostly due to its international appeal. Many wealthy Asian gamblers are still attracted to what is on offer in Las Vegas and chose to make it their gambling destination.

Atlantic City, on the other hand, has typically relied on domestic tourists who flock to the Jersey shore for sun, fun and gambling but the American economic crisis has put an end this.

In an effort to reinvigorate its earnings, the newly renamed Atlantic Club Hotel and Casino is offering its Players Club Members the special room rate of $19 per night Sunday through Thursday. However, not everyone is excited by the cheap room rates.

Some residents and critics fear that this will not improve the reputation of Atlantic City.

Cheap hotel rooms are not this casinos only ploy to increase domestic tourism. The bankrolls of table game players will see another change. Minimum bets as low as $2 for roulette and $3 for craps will now be the casino’s standard. In addition, the casino has also released chips worth 25 cents and 50 cents.

Let’s take a blackjack player as an example to really see the benefits. Blackjack table minimums will drop to $5 per hand. Other casinos in the area are charging an average of $200 per night Sunday to Thursday. If you stay at the Atlantic Club Hotel and Casino you will save yourself about $180 per night. That savings alone will give you an extra 36 hands at the blackjack table.

So what does this mean for gamblers who prefer to play in land based casinos? In reality, it means that players can enjoy luxury accommodations for less than most motels and spend their money at the tables instead. Sounds like a win for everyone!
