The game that sometimes leaves people empty handed has saved a worldwide shipping company.

The CEO of FedEx, Fred Smith, has managed to keep the company on float thanks to his talent in the game of Blackjack.

One of the Co-Founders of Elevation Partners wrote on Quora that the book written by Roger Frock – a founding executive at FedEx, features a story of the company’s “magical” salvation.

Opening the pages of “Changing How The World Does Business” you will find out, that at one point the company was on the edge, when it’s funds weren’t enough to even pay for jet fuel worth $24 000.

The company’s account had only as much as $5000 on Friday, and Frock went home for the weekend devastated. When he checked the account on Monday, he saw that it had $32000 on it.

He couldn’t understand how it could happen until Smith told him, that he's had a meeting with General Dynamics board that was terrible, so he took the last money from FedEx account and flew to Las Vegas, where he won $27000, playing blackjack.

Apparently, Flock couldn’t stay calm with the thought that his partner took all they had to play blackjack, but at the same time the fact that it saved the company was overwhelming.

Blackjack was what let FedEx go on and become one of the biggest worldwide shipping companies.

It can pay off amazingly, but the player needs to risk. But risk is worth it, when you can win thousands of dollars, for FedEx it was!
