Delays in Providing Regulated Blackjack in Spain 11.01.2012

Spanish blackjack players will have to wait another six months before they are able to play blackjack at licensed and regulated online casinos. This is due to an expected delay in implementing Spain’s new online gambling legislation.

Blackjack players from Spain were always able to play online but they did so at online casinos that were not licensed by the Spanish government and did not offer the right security and protection for players. Many of the casinos were licensed in other European countries and Spanish players playing at these casinos enjoyed a more secure online gaming experience as these casinos operated under strict European controls.

However many Spanish blackjack players were lured to playing online blackjack at online casinos that were not licensed in Europe and did not offer players the protection they needed. Due to this and the growing trend in Europe to regulate online gaming, the Spanish government decided to change its laws and create a regulatory framework for licensing online gambling operators in Spain.

New gambling laws were agreed upon in May 2011 and made into law in November 2011. The Spanish government expected all licensing applications to be completed by mid-December which obviously left many operators with not enough time to submit their applications.

Therefore in the New Year the Spanish government decided it will delay opening its regulated online gaming market by six months to allow operators to submit their license applications.

This means that only in June 2012 will online blackjack become a legal and regulated activity in Spain. Until then blackjack players are able to continue playing at online casinos that are licensed in other European countries. Before they do so it is important to check the license of the online casino and ensure they have the right measures in place to protect your money and privacy.
