Man Demands Blackjack Chips from Police 09.10.2011

The police officers at Lincoln, Nebraska were surprised when an Oregon man came running into the police station, approached the front desk at the police station at University of Nebraska-Lincoln and asked the officers for blackjack chips.

The incident took place after a Saturday night football game and was originally reported by the Washington Post. According to the authorities they informed the 21 years old man that they were not a casino and that he had entered a police station instead. This caused the man to quietly leave the police station.

The silly incident would have ended there if the man did not come running back into the police station only minutes after he left it and again came up to the front desk asking for blackjack chips.

At that point, according to Sergeant John Backer of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln police station, the police officers decided that there must be something wrong with the man and held him for questioning. An officer administrated a breathalyzer test to check for alcohol and discovered that the man’s blood alcohol level was more than triple the legal limit in the state of Nebraska.

Since the man was not driving a vehicle or operating heavy machinery, which people are not allowed to do by law when under the influence of alcohol, the police was not able to arrest him. They did however transport him to a local Detox facility until he would sober up.
