The European Court gives OK to Foreign Online Casino Operators 19.02.2012

The online gambling industry, although a relatively young industry, has been trying in recent years to find ways of regulating itself by ways of encouraging countries to legislate appropriate online gambling legislation and regulating the market for the benefit and safety of their residents, or by way of establishing and supporting independent regulatory bodies to monitor the industry.

Amid all the growing pressure from online players, asking their governments to catch up with the changing times and technologies and provide the residents with secure and legal online gambling, and the latent awakening of some politicians to the changing landscape of the gambling industry, there have been many changes in many countries.

Some of the legislative changes have been embraced by players, operators, software companies, and players' associations. This happened especially in countries that developed a fair licensing system that did not discriminate against foreign operators and taxed them fairly.

However, in some cases there have been many problems and delays due to disapproval from players and operators as to the type of online gambling legislation proposed. This happened in several European countries that tried to close their online gambling industry before other European operators in a gross violation of European Union fair trade laws.

Now the European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled that national regulators in EU nations must not discriminate against operators from other EU nations. Instead they must provide them with a fair and competitive chance to enter the local online gaming arena.

This is great news for online blackjack players and especially those who prefer multi-player live dealer blackjack games, since now they will be able to play around the same table with players from all over Europe and really challenge their blackjack playing skills, rather than just playing around players from their own country.
