Facebook Tries to Charge Money for Gambling Fan Pages 26.11.2012

Blackjack News

Facebook was initially launched as a social networking sites with the intentions of bringing people together and giving members a new way to connect with the world. It’s no secret that the company has been recently experiencing some financial problems including low stock prices and has interests in hosting real-money gambling. As a way to solve both issues, Facebook has unfortunately started targeting gambling fan pages to supply the company with new revenue.

Imagine that you run a fan page for blackjack players. Your page is filled with tips and tricks to help new blackjack players plus related articles and topics of conversation. You probably host this page because you love playing blackjack and you thought that having a Facebook fan page was a great way to bring players together.

Now, Facebook wants to charge you a monthly fee for your page but you don’t even make any money from it yourself. The company has sent all gambling-related fan pages letters stating that they will have to pay $10,000 per month if they want to keep the pages up. In addition, companies that place gambling related ads on Facebook will now be subjected to a minimum $30,000 limit. The company does mention gambling and provides a list of guidelines that must be followed for fan pages. However, people have been shocked by this recent news particularly because Facebook has not stated anything related to these fees on the site.

It would be a shame if Facebook follows through with this new financial plan. Unfortunately, many of the gambling communities that have been formed through Facebook will cease to exist.
