The end of tax-free gambling era in Portugal 18.08.2014

The future of online gambling strongly depends on the regulations that are being accepted in the USA and Europe.

There more regulated online gambling is, the easier it would be for players to find a legitimate service provider to play blackjack and other casino games.

At the same time, the less the market is regulated, the less obstacles there are both for gamblers and service providers. The players don't have to pay taxes and the providers don't have to apply for a licence or pay any other fees that imply in the regulated businesses.

That was and currently is the situation in Portugal, that has always been very alluring for gamblers due to the lack of state regulations in the field. A large amount of card players have relocated to the country to avoid the necessity of cutting the revenues to pay taxes.

This situation will change in the end of 2014 when the regulations will take effect.

Portugal is yet to establish the regulations and the European Commission has given the first recommendations on the matter that will allow the country regulate online gambling to protect the consumers.

The tax from online gaming and betting gross revenue will be set at 15 to 30%.

The industry control will be executed by The Portuguese authority "Inspecção Geral de Jogos". The licence will require a deposit of € 600 000.

Blackjack and other casino style games will be authorized the same way as the online Poker varieties.
